Description

Description Greener Horizons, a follow-up from the very popular Greener Pastures and Brown Blazers, is a semi-autobiographical intriguing tale, revealing the twists and turns of a young woman's life after leaving the confines of a Convent grammar boarding school. Emma Holmes, with Faith, her best friend, leaves family behind and moves to an industrial town to begin working life with expectations of spending money, having fun, meeting boyfriends and eventually, being married. In reality, she becomes involved with a questionable young man and is thwarted by her father who steps in, over-riding her plans because 'it is for the best.' In another town and separated from her friend, Emma eventually meets her Mr Right. Her mother asks if he is a Catholic (he has never been inside a Catholic church) and his mother wants to know what he will do about having children. Will life live up to her expectations if it means being many miles from home; communicating by letter only; and making ends meet on one salary? Go down memory lane and enjoy this fascinating life story of a young woman in the early 1960s. About the Author Edna Mary Hunneysett was born in 1940 near Stratford-on-Avon but in her infancy, the family moved to a small hillside farm on the North Yorkshire moors where Edna spent her early life with six siblings. After passing the eleven+ exams, she was a boarder at a Convent grammar school and on finishing school, worked in the Inland Revenue department of the Civil Service. Edna married in 1961 and has eight children, twenty-one grandchildren and three great grandchildren. From 1977 to 1991, she worked part-time as receptionist at a BBC local radio station. She gained a BA Hons (Divinity) in 1995 and an MA in 1998. Edna lives with her husband, a retired teacher, in Middlesbrough.
