Description

This devoted and heartfelt memoir tells of Elizabeth and Paul Ravencraft's 60-year love story, from teenage to golden age. It is a story of love, courtship, and holding on during difficult times, including times of rags to riches and to rags. There were glass ceilings broken, and pieces picked up along the way. Their encouraging story of love and devotion endured ten years of Alzheimer's, as each took on a new role during those golden years. The memoir also brings readers on a journey across the South, and through the many wars and social issues, including civil rights and women's rights. The Oklahoma oil boom of the 1970s followed by the oil bust of the 1980s presented many highs and lows. Sitting at her breakfast table recently, Elizabeth made a profound discovery. In the center of the table were roses cut from a bush that Paul had planted years ago. Their fragrance reminded her of the many roses he had given her throughout the years. She was eating a bowl of grits and looking at the lovely roses when she suddenly thought, "This is the story of my life-GRITS AND ROSES!

Author Biography:

Elizabeth Love Stegall Ravencraft's desire to write and express herself has taken many forms. Her writing has included manuals on accounting, auditing, and industrial safety procedures, plus a handbook on the history and beliefs of major religious cults. She has written several cookbooks for family and friends, and most recently, a book featuring her beautiful tablescapes. Her proudest writing is her website, lizlovelifelessons.com, a ten-year journal about living with and caring for her husband with Alzheimer's. Since 2014, this website continues to reach thousands around the world. Along with her late husband, she was co-owner of three restaurants, which allowed her to express herself in menu design, advertising, promotions, and party planning. With her catering company she served everything from soup to nuts at events like weddings, civic gatherings, holiday parties, state conventions, and steak cook-outs on oil rigs. For almost 70 years, she was a bookkeeper and accountant for several Fortune 500 companies, CPA firms, and also for her own businesses. She is a past member of the National Association of Accountants, and was also a notary public in several states.
