Description

Groove Systems utilizes patterns directly transcribed from 10 unique styles of music as a vehicle for both coordination development and an increase in stylistic vocabulary. The Groove System encompasses thousands of functional and musical coordination exercises. Each chapter contains a brief history of the style of music, as well as a list of the key drummers, artists, and grooves that exemplify that style. The Groove System follows and contains vocabulary for each isolated "instrument" of the drum set. Systems Include: - Allen's Afrobeat - Go-go - James Brown - Elvin Latin - Reggae - Jazz Time - Afro-Cuban 6/8 - Gadd Mozambique - Purdie Variations - Idris Boogaloo "With Groove Systems, Tim Carman has done an amazing job of taking the process of working on independence and coupled it with an approach that expands your musical knowledge, versatility, and ability to play different styles. Working on your groove coordination while learning material from Tony Allen, Idris Muhammad, Bernard Purdie, Elvin Jones, and many others is a brilliant idea. This is a fresh, relevant, and above all useful drum book!" Joe Bergamini (drummer, author, educator) "Tim Carman has put together a comprehensive book detailing systems that all drummers should find to be not only engaging for the coordination, but very musical as well! Highly Recommend!" Bruce Becker (drummer, author, and educator as seen on Drumeo) "Tim Carman is one of today's leading drummers and educators. Groove System's is a publication that challenges a drummer's capacity to develop control, independence, touch... while at the same time various music styles and genres. This concepts within this book is an evolution of all the great literature that has been written and explored in the past. Groove systems will be one of my go-to resources to work out of and teach out of moving forward." Neal Smith (drummer, educator)
