The book introduces general principles of grossing technology and their application in histology laboratory practice. It encompasses all activities in the surgical pathology histology laboratory during the pre-analytical stage of specimen processing. The Special part of the book concentrates on technical details of grossing predominately biopsies and small ("routine") specimens. The content also presents the organizational aspect of gross room set up as well as safety issues. The book accumulates the experiences of a variety of histology laboratories, from academic institutions to large commercial and small standalone laboratories. The materials can be used for grossing technologists training programs.

Author Biography:

The author is MD, PhD, HT (ASCP). Medical specialty-clinical and anatomic pathology. Currently retired. Worked in Chicago hospitals (Mount Sinai Medical Center and Loyola University Chicago Medical Center) as a pathologists' assistant and grossing technologists. Developed and maintained two popular websites "Grossing Technology in Surgical Pathology" and "Surgical Pathology CPT coding Cookbook." Published articles in peer reviewed journals on grossing technology, CPT coding, and the educational laboratory website's development. Published three books grossing and CPT coding. The current book is the fourth.
