Description

Two people separated by age, distance and culture. Both suffering emotionally. Martin at home in Ireland, grieving for his wife who had died some seven years previously, and Joy a bar girl in Thailand with all that entails. In the years following his wife's death, Martin has sought solace through spirituality and has become a collector of reverent figurines. He travels to Thailand to attend an auction and is robbed by a street thief. In giving chase, he finds himself in Joy's bar and an odd but honest friendship is born. As a mutual respect is developed, both Martin and Joy struggle to contain their growing affections for each other as obstacles mount against them. There is opposition from Martin's family and there is a bureaucracy that threatens to overwhelm them as they try to forge a way forward. Set against the backdrop of political turmoil and abject poverty, Hello Welcome tells the bittersweet truth that sometimes, you will not be punished for your love...you will be punished by it.
