Many methods have been devised to help with this acquisition, all of them stressing the fundamental importance of mastering the words most frequently used. William Bishop Owen was the authors of many articles and books on classical subjects. Edgar Johnson Goodspeed was the authors of many articles and books on classical subjects. Clyde Pharr (1885-1972) was head of the Classics Department at Vanderbilt University.
