Description

I Am Me Wherever I Go is the story of a young child's move from the city to the suburbs. Through a child's eyes we take a journey to a new world that appears to be so very different. The child wonders, "How will I ever fit in?" The child's experiences help to realize that there are many similarities along with the differences. With the help of friends, family, teachers, and classmates, the child learns to "just be myself." The lesson learned is that though we may appear different and our worlds may seem miles apart, we all have the same foundations of family, customs, and cultural values. I Am Me Wherever I Go opens the door for meaningful comparison of each child's family, customs, special events, and more.

Author Biography:

About the Author and Illustrator: Deidre and Veronica have taught together for many years in an elementary school. Over the past year working together has sparked many questions and issues related to learning in school and in the United States. The ladies worked together everyday during the pandemic meeting all the guidelines and requirements, and were able to teach everyday, full day in person in New York State.During this time we as educators were asked to begin looking at what we were teaching and how we were teaching to be Culturally Responsible. This book is a way for parents, educators, and students to begin disussions about culture, families, customs, an celebrations. We believe students learn best when they feels safe to share what makes them special and unique. Children are accepting at a young age and building an inclusive world and school is the ultimate goal. This book can begin the process.
