In 1862, after his brother Ben had joined the Federal Army and upset his father, Jeb decides to join the Confederate Army. But soon the reality of the war and the overwhelming odds of the Federal forces begin to test not only his decision to join, but his loyalties, and even his faith in God. As the war progresses he finds new hope, loss, and is visited by foreboding nightmares. New loves and friendships bolster his morale and drives him on as he is tested on all fronts.
