"Psychedelic Perfection"
4 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

This is probably the best Psychedelic album I've heard in a jolly long time. It's not the most common of genre's so it's nice to see someone attempting it and doing it right.

It's got that hazey Psychedelic sound, complete with extended instrumental sequences. On the downside, they tend to get a tad too extended towards the middle of the album, but it all wraps up nicely.

Highly recommended.

Description

Modular is over the moon to ring in a new era of interspaced exploration and swinging, freejamming delight with their freshest release - Tame Impala.

Tame Impala are Kevin Parker [Guitar & Vocals], Dominic Simper [Bass Guitar] & Jay Watson [Drums & Vocals] the Perth-based 3 piece hypno-groove wet dream who deliver music that makes other bands look like a bad acid flashback, think Cream meets Can on an ether-tinged desert ride with Dr. Gonzo. With fuzzed guitars, tumbling drums and howling  a plenty, the band evokes dreamy images of a place where music belongs to all five senses and rhythm aligns with the pulse
of the space-time continuum.

The trio came together in 2007 after floating around various Perth outfits in one bastard form or another and hit upon their current steez as Tame Impala over a shared appreciation of drum beats, Leaf Hound and the challenging confines of living off $5 a week. Citing Kyuss and QOTSA frontman Josh Homme, John Lennon and Selda as heroes, Tame Impala went about creating their buzzing, meandering headtrip of harmony-laden and melody-soaked psych rock. Don’t let the influences fool you though, this band isn’t about re-creating the past, it’s all here and now.

Tame Impala may call Australia home, but the three-piece outfit trade in the kind of zonked-out psych that brings to mind the Swedes in Dungen. The band's debut, Innerspeaker, was released last week in Australia and is scheduled for June 8 in the U.S. via Modular (that's the trippy cover art above)
