Description

The first graphic novel from New York Times bestselling and Edgar Award-winning author, Andrew Klavan. JENNY AND THE DARKNESS is about an amnesiac hitman who searches for redemption as he helps a beautiful D.A. clean up a corrupt city. Styled in the tradition of SIN CITY, 100 BULLETS and THE KILLER, this graphic novel delves into themes of the hope of forgiveness vs. the stain of evil, the fact that every form of power corrupts, and explores courage as the essential virtue. The law protects the powerful and the powerful seal their deals in the blood of the weak. And anyone who tries to beat the system soon finds out he's got a date with the Darkness. The Darkness--that's what they call him because you never see him coming. He's just suddenly there. Run for cover, lock the door, and hire an army of bodyguards to protect you. It doesn't matter. Once they send the Darkness after you, you better lie down because you're already dead. The Darkness doesn't know who he is. He can't remember. He sees flashes of memory, hears voices that whisper to him: he used to be a better man. How can a person's sins be forgiven when the past can't be rewritten? The Darkness wants to recover his identity as a hero, but the people he's killed can't be brought back to life. He is feeling his way through a night of guilt and sorrow, going forward on a very fragile faith that he can make it to the light of a new day. He may never completely find redemption, but the world will be a better place because he went looking for it. From that point on, the mob, the law and the government of Stone River City have one thing in common: they want the Darkness dead. With all the forces of corruption gunning for him, the Darkness takes on a new kind of assassin contract: a hunt for redemption. He has one ally. Her name is Jenny Dawson. She's the city's only honest prosecutor. She's been fighting a lonely battle to try to clean up Stone River City. But she's not alone anymore. Now the Darkness is on her side. Every politician who's on the take...every gangster with blood on his hands...every fat cat who preys on the poor...every dirty bastard who runs this town had better learn to sleep with one eye open. Jenny's on a mission to bring them down--and the Darkness is coming after them.
