I was very impressed with Joanna's style of recording and touched by the personal side to her story. She showed sensitivity when dealing with the different issues within the Indian Society. I learned a lot from watching this DVD

In this doco, Joanna Lumley takes you all over India, including Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Rajasthan, mentions her family history a great deal, and skip big tourist destinations like the Taj Mahal, Hawa Mahal, Jaipur, and Pondicherry. A lovely documentary if you're looking for one that explores the ‘real’ India rather than the big, famous tourist destinations.
Joanna Lumley travels back to the country that she came from to celebrate the great nation that it is today. A year older than Independent India itself, Joanna was born into the last days of The Raj and India was home to both sides of her family for several generations. Travelling over 5000 miles, Joanna explores India’s diverse landscapes, cultural traditions and extraordinary spirit, discovering how independence has changed and shaped it into the great evolving country it is today. Celebrating its beauty, wildlife, people, culture, history, modernity and absolute diversity, Joanna’s journey takes her on an exploration of India’s past, present and future, drawing on her own connections and experiences and learning from stories of others.
