Description

This book discusses recent archaeological research along the Middle Danube Limes, as well as cities and fortifications in the hinterland of the Limes. This research sheds light on the process of Christianisation through the discovery of sacral architecture, sepulchral monuments and religious objects devoted to liturgical practice. An extensive catalogue of early Christian religious artefacts complements the discussion. The author illuminates the process of Christianisation in Late Antiquity, identifying the origins of the Christian influences that reached the Middle Danube Limes between the 4th and 7th centuries.

Author Biography:

Olivera Ilic is a researcher at the Institute of Archaeology in Belgrade (Serbia). Her research focuses on Roman material culture in the province of Moesia Superior. In addition to studying all aspects of Roman economy, she is also interested in the beginnings of Christianisation in the central Balkan provinces, especially along the Middle Danube Limes.
