The author analyses the role of the Syrian Socialist Nationalist Party, the history of the army in Lebanon and it role in Lebanese politics and the impact of the coup on Lebanese political life. This book provides a unique insight into the mechanisms of military coups in the Arab world and will be of interest to students and researchers of the history and politics of the Middle East.

Author Biography:

Adel Beshara studied Economics at La Trobe University and Political Science at the University of Melbourne. He received his Ph.D in History in 2002 from the University of Melbourne where he is also a teacher and a Fellow of the Department of History. His previous publications include Syrian Nationalism: An Inquiry in to the Political Thought of Antun Sa'adeh (1995), and several articles in leading journals on the Middle East.
