The world of Legaia was once a rich and prosperous land where its dwellers, Man and a magical being called Seru, peacefully co-existed.

The Seru served Man's needs by becoming anything necessary for a man to survive, such as buildings for shelter or wings to fly. Man eventually grew greedy and abused the abilities of the Seru, which caused an evil, deadly mist to engulf Legaia. Man fled to the mountains, seaside and underground to avoid the mist, and left the Seru to die.

Miraculously, a villager named Vahn and a Seru named Meta discovered that upon reviving a weakened Genesis Tree, a powerful light emitted, wiped out any surrounding deadly mist. The survival of Legaia is now up to Vahn.

Armed with the Seru as a magical sword, he must find and save the remaining Genesis Trees to drive the evil mist away from Legaia.
