Description

This book will pair up perfectly with the #1 best-selling and award-winning book, How Do I Feel? A Dictionary of Emotions by Rebekah Lipp and Craig Phillips. We all experience emotions. Big ones, small ones, joyous one and uncomfortable ones. Each emotion is simply energy that travels through us. When they do, they are trying to give us a message to help us. Never feel bad about experiencing an emotion. All emotions are healthy and normal. It is what you do with the emotions that is important. You can learn more about yourself and what you need through the messages that emotions provide us. When an emotion comes to visit us, sometimes it can feel overwhelming. Certain emotions can make us react in ways that we might regret. We might say something we don't mean. We might lash out at someone when we don't actually want to hurt them. Sometimes they bubble up and can feel like they are about to burst out of us. It can be hard to know what to do when we are feeling intense emotions inside. This is why it is a great idea to learn ways to release emotions safely from our bodies, so we don't end up hurting ourselves or others. Emotions are energy that flows into our bodies and should flow back out again. This book is all about ways to allow emotional energy to flow out in healthy and safe ways that you can try. See which ones you like best and work for you. Recipient of a 2022 Contestable Fund Grant from Copyright Licensing New Zealand. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ "As a parent educator I am always looking for tools and ideas that can help parents and kids with understanding and accepting big feelings. I absolutely adore this book and would recommend it to any parent looking to increase their child's and their own vocabulary around emotions and in turn resilience in the face of challenging times. This is one of the biggest gifts we can give to our kids, and this book is a fantastic way to give kids resources and ideas for managing their feelings. It just might even help us as adults too!" - Genevieve Muir, Connected Parenting

Author Biography:

Bex Lipp co-wrote the book 'Finding Gratitude' through Quarto Publishing in the US. Bex's own personal story of struggles with mental health issues led her to come up with the ideas behind the picture books, with a focus on emotions, anxiety and general well-being. With a passion to bring awareness to the mental health of children from her own personal story, Bex has now been asked to speak at events around the topic of the creation of Aroha's Way, anxiety and mental health. After going through two years of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), after ending up in crisis in her early twenties, Bex felt there was a real gap in what the professionals knew and what parents and teachers needed to know. Bex strongly feels that we can empower our children with skills, to help prevent them from ending up in crisis like she did. Using the skills she has learnt throughout her journey with anxiety, depression, self-harm, body dysmorphia and Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) she is creating books with messages to help children connect with their emotions and learn ways to regulate them. With a gentle parenting approach, Bex feels that all children have genius within them and if we act out of a place of compassion, kindness and love, we will see our children thrive.Bex was thrilled that How Do I Feel? A Dictionary of Emotions was awarded as a Notable Book in the Storylines Book Awards 2021 and was also a Finalist in the 2022 NZ Book Awards for Children & Young Adults. Craig Phillips received the NZ Children & Young Adults Book Award for Best Illustration in 2018 for his first book Giants, Trolls, Witches, Beasts: Ten Tales from the Deep, Dark Woods, published by Allen & Unwin.
