LL Cool J – Live In Maine (Colby College 1985)
It was five months before his debut album Radio hit the shelves. Is was less
than a year before he celebrated his 18th birthday. And it was possibly the
first ever hip-hop performance in the state of Maine. A baby-faced LL Cool J
visited Colby College in Maine in 1985 and introduced hip hop to a state that
knew little of it. LL broke down all four aspects of hip hop culture to the
sparse crowd in attendance: emceeing, DJing, breakdancing and
graffiti. It was an epic performance that truly sends shivers down your spine at
witnessing the birth of hip hop outside the inner city. A must have for any
true fan of the origins of hip hop.
