Description

The Lower Tapti River Basin (LTRB) constitutes a significant and integral part of the south Gujarat alluvial plains and provides a unique example of its geomorphic diversity, tectonism, eustatic changes and sedimentological processes. It evidenced events that occurred since Middle Pleistocene up to Holocene and comprises an exhaustive record of Quaternary sediments, resting on the platforms provided by the rocks of Tertiary and Deccan Trap Formations. However, except some cursory information by earlier workers, this area has received very less attention. This book, therefore, based on the field observations, laboratory investigations and other parameters, such as palaeo-geographic conditions, drainage characteristics, landform features, composite litho-stratigraphic succession, nature of sediments, tectonic signatures and seismic evidences, presents the influence of geological processes during Quaternary times in bringing about the evolution of LTRB and sedimentation history vis-à-vis neotectonic attributes. The present work also furnishes the variation in the land-sea boundary during Quaternary times in LTRB.
