Description

Professor Luis Leal is one of the most outstanding scholars of Mexican, Latin American and Chicano literatures and one of the first senior scholars to recognise the viability and importance of Chicano literature. In this testimony, Luis Leal reflects upon his early life in Mexico, his intellectual formation at the Universities Northwestern and Chicago, and his work and publications as a scholar at the University of Illinois and the University of California. Garcia draws out the connections between literature and history, and elicits Leal's assessment of many of the prominent writers he has known or studied, including William Faulkner, Octavio Paz, Tomas Rivera, Ana Castillo and Gabriel Garcia Marquez.
