Following the geography of the state, from the coast to the north woods, it is a photographic interpretation based on Niemeyer's focus on "the natural order." Using his photographs and text, combined with elegant and revealing excerpts from the writings of Rachel Carson and Louise Dickinson Rich, Neimeyer compiles his view of Maine throughout the seasons.
