Description

This is a contribution to the study of the historical geography of Palestine during the period of the British occupation and Mandate, shedding light on a crucial stage in the development of this country. The British Mandatory Government ruled for only a short period of time but it had a galvanizing effect on the landscape of Palestine. Under the control of the Colonial Office, Palestine became part of a large and complex interchange of ideas and technology, privy to specialized research and development committees, and included in pan-Empire plans and operations. Drawing on theories of "imperial landscape", "technological transfer" and "periodization", Dr El-Eini reveals how British policies impacted on the Palestine landscape on every level: macro, meso and micro and details both the similarities and differences vis-a-vis other imperial territories.
