Description

A photographer hired to witness a murder, a colour-blind sperm donor, a ghost who misses his friends, a Canadian who pretends he's from Latvia, and a woman sure her children's will be the last human generation-these are just some of the fascinating characters with leading roles in this poignant collection of short stories.Often amusing, sometimes comical and occasionally sad, these tales are always touching. William Peskett writes with a light touch and brings a sensitive and sympathetic eye to bear on a wide variety of characters and an unusual mixture of relationships. Most of the stories in the collection are set in Thailand or have a Thai connection and have much to reveal about how life is lived by locals and by foreigners resident in this fascinating part of the world. If you enjoy this book, be sure also to try the companion collection, Mist on the Jungle and Other Stories.

Author Biography:

William Peskett has been a biology schoolteacher and a journalist, he has worked in marketing, design management and corporate relations. Through it all, he has maintained a love of writing. It began with poetry and Peskett was part of a notable group of poets who worked in Northern Ireland in the 1970s and 80s. During this time he was published extensively in magazines and newspapers, performed readings and broadcast frequently. Two volumes of poems, The Nightowl's Dissection and Survivors, were published by Secker & Warburg, London - the first of which won an Eric Gregory Award. Brought up in Belfast, Peskett was educated there and at Cambridge University, where he read natural sciences. His professional life was spent in Suffolk and in London. Now retired from all the excitement of earning a living, Peskett lives in Pattaya, Thailand where he spends his time tending his jungle garden and, naturally, writing. Peskett's adopted country of residence continues to provide ample material for his observation: three novels and collections of essays and short stories deal with issues in a distinctly Thai setting.
