Description

For more than 100 years families from all over the Midwest have spent summer vacations in the Traverse City Area. This is a magical place of warm days, cool nights, blue skies, clear water, cherries, blueberries, and fudge. The author and his extended family including four granddaughters have been privileged to spend time together there. This book is intended to enhance the "Up North" experiences of young people who visit this magical place in the years ahead It is the last of a trilogy of Mary Huckleberry books. The book begins in 1982, the summer between the two heroines' junior and senior years at Traverse City high school. Both of the heroines, Mary Huckleberry and Sally Summerfield grow up considerably that summer. They have their first boyfriends and make decisions that will influence the rest of their lives. The book ends in 1993 and describes the girls' lives as young, married adults. It is a book about possibilities, choices, decisions, and consequences. The author did the writing and his wife, Anne Sullivan, did the editing. This book is dedicated to her. The author is the retired Chairman and one of the founders of Sullivan, Cotter and Associates, a nationwide human resources consulting firm. Prior to establishing the firm he was a faculty member and Associate Director of the Graduate School of Human Resources at Michigan State University. He is the author of several professional publications but the Mary Huckleberry trilogy is his first attempt at fiction.
