Darryl is the chocolate half of an interracial couple whose life represents a unique view of race relations in the 20th century. Brought up in the Bronx, NY, fatherless and raised by a very religious but disturbed mother and sister of Tony Williams, lead singer of the Platters. Darryl's story chronicles his transition from "Freedom Fighter" to "Hippie," from NYC to San Francisco. He became the first in his family to graduate college and obtain a Master's degree and the second to marry a white woman.
