Author Biography:

Mima Cattan is Senior Lecturer at Leeds Metropolitan University. She spent several years as a specialist and senior manager in health promotion where she was involved in a range of local and national health promotion initiatives in relation to mental health promotion and older people. She has a PhD from the University of Newcastle for research into effective health promotion interventions targeting social isolation and loneliness among older people. She currently teaches on postgraduate health promotion courses, such as professional practice and mental health promotion. Her current research is on mental well-being and the accessibility of the built environment for older people. Sylvia Tilford is Visiting Professor in Health Promotion at Leeds Metropolitan University. She was a teacher in schools and adult education before working for over 20 years at Leeds Met in health promotion teaching and research. She has also worked with community mental health projects. She has a longstanding interest in mental health promotion and has undertaken research on effective practice. She is committed to raising the profile of mental health in national and international policy and practice and the achievement of greater equity in mental health.
