Merry Mari was written by Celia Siiri Laakso Hoyt as a loving tribute to her mother, Maria Sofia Kankäänpää Laakso, after she died in 1986. This story is based on Maria's childhood and shows what it might have been like to be a young girl growing up in Finland during the early years of the twentieth century.

Author Biography:

Celia Siiri Laakso Hoyt taught elementary school in her birthplace-Newport, New Hampshire-for 40 years. She has three daughters and six grandchildren. Celia lives in Florida with her husband, Gene, who shares her love of golf. Celia and her sister, Sally Laakso Medicke, traveled to Finland, meeting family and seeing the places where their parents grew up.
