Top disco/house producer Mark E delivers his third remix for Far Out – a distinctive, mesmeric slow-burning mix of Azymuth’s ‘Meu Mengô’, taken from the legendary samba jazz-funk trio’s huge new album ‘Aurora’ (FARO157CD/LP). Having released his debut remixes on the label’s Far Out Monster Disco Orchestra project (FOMDO02 alongside LTJ X-perience and FOMDO04 alongside MODE) Mark E returns with this special mix of Far Out’s most famous sons Azymuth on their modern-classic Meu Mengô.
Side A is the West-Midlands DJ producer Mark E’s full length mix that stretches out over 10 and a half gloriously produced chill-wave minutes. Mark E brings this natural progression mix to late-night dance floor life drawing upon his wide-ranging influences – rave, early Chicago house, industrial house & disco – to produce his quintessential steady-beat rolling loops. The free groove of Azymuth combines perfectly with the steady-beat darkness of its re-creator as the hypnotic synths layer upon heavy percussive beats & interspersing breathless Mengo vocals.
Side B is for the clubs, the DJs and the heads. Two mixes that bring the beats to the fore as the pounding bass surges faster and harder on these dub and beat journeys.
Meu Mengô is inspired by Azymuth bassist Alex Malheiros’ football team – Flamengo – a passion he shares with his band-mates Ivan ‘Mamao’ Conti (drums) & Jose Roberto Bertrami (keys). Taken from the new album ‘Aurora’ – that sees a return to their huge old school sound – that celebrates 35 years of the band as “arguably the most successful band to come out of Brazil” on their best album of the modern-era.
