This text examines how science and technology have differentially affected the lives of men and women, focusing on the rural areas of developing countries where most people live. The editors identify two issues: gender inequity in education and careers in science and education on the one hand, and the gender-specific nature of technical change on the other. The contributors make recommendations within their sector of study for policy changes by national governments and science and technology policy agencies.
