Lawrence S. Kaplan is Emeritus Director, Lyman L. Lemnitzer Center for NATO and European Studies, Kent State University, and Professorial Lecturer in History, Georgetown University. He is the author or editor of more than two dozen books, including NATO Divided, NATO United and most recently NATO 1948: The Birth of the Transatlantic Alliance.
