Carlo misses his father. His parents are separated, he is with his mother in Germany while his father is back in their native Palermo. His father is always about to visit but somehow never quite gets to Germany. Carlo gets tired of waiting and decides to do something about it and sets off for Palermo but without any money to pay his fare. What happens is a series of adventures when anything that could go wrong does but Carlo despite everything gets to Palermo. He finds his father who has a new partner and it is clear his family will never be reunited. There is no happy ending and Carlo is sent back to Germany to be reunited with his mother Carlo has learnt a lot about life and the adult world. The fat little boy accepts the life he has and comes to term with his reality. It is a story which will strike a chord with many readers as they take Carlo into their hearts. AUTHOR: Oliver Scherz was born in Essen in Germany in 1974. He is a playwright and film director. He began writing for children when his daughter was born.
