Author Biography:

JoAnn Shade ministered as a Salvation Army officer for 34 years, with its labor-intensive focus on service and fund-raising at Christmas. With a desire to remain centered on the spiritual preparation for the coming of Christ in the midst of that bustling activity, she began to share daily writings with staff and congregation to provide a focus to their day, now published as a series of Advent reflections for Christ-Seekers. Following the completion of the Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in Ashland, she retired in 2012 from the daily responsibilities of Salvation Army leadership. With a D.Min. from Ashland Theological Seminary, she combines her academic training with a writer's eye, a pastor's heart and a grandmother's joy as she serves the body of Christ through Gracednotes Ministries.
