'Doctor, can you tell me my story?' The treatment of the mind can sometimes rely on the recounting of a tale. Inspired by the words of a patient who was struggling to make sense of her own mental illness, Eva Cybulska has pieced together a number of her patients' narratives in a personal and inspiring collection. Each story stands alone in its thoughtful treatment of some truly individual characters, but throughout the book, one message rings true: the 'interruption of life's narrative' that is madness can only be addressed by using the story itself - rather like Ariadne's thread - to lead the sufferer out of the labyrinth of their mind, and into the 'light of reason'. In doing so, Cybulska sheds a new light for all readers onto the idea of madness itself. Dr Eva M Cybulska was born and educated in Poland, and received her postgraduate degree in the UK. Early on she developed a particular interest in the study of creativity and madness and has been a consultant psychiatrist, with many publications in professional journals. She is now retired after many years of working in the NHS, and is pursuing a passion for reading, writing and travel. She currently lives in London and has two grown-up children.
