Description

On-Chip Photonics: Principles, Technology and Applications reviews the advances of integrated photonic devices and their demonstrated applications. The discussed applications encompass a wide range of cutting-edge technologies, including quantum photonics, lasers on a chip, mid-infrared and overtone spectroscopies, all-optical processing on a chip, logic gates on a chip, and cryptography on a chip. The summaries in the book chapters facilitate an understanding of the field and enable the application of optical waveguides in a variety of optical systems. Overviews of computational tools, material platforms, and suggestions for the realization of on-chip photonic devices are also included

Author Biography:

Dr. Alina Karabchevsky is a tenured Assistant Professor at Ben-Gurion University (BGU) of the Negev and heads the Light-on-a-Chip group at BGU which explores the interaction of light and matter on a chip. She serves as Chair of the IEEE Women in Engineering Affinity group Israel section. Dr Karabchevsky holds a PhD in Electrooptics Engineering, MSc and BSc in Biomedical Engineering. She was the recipient of the Alma Mater President’s Award “Outstanding Woman in Science” and Research Fellow at the Optoelectronics Research Center at the University of Southampton thereafter. In 2015, she joined the Electrooptical Engineering Department at Ben-Gurion University as a faculty and established the Light-on-a-Chip group. Her main research interests lie in the broad areas of photonics with a focus on integrated photonics and biophotonics. Dr. Amol Choudhary is an Assistant Professor at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, India and heads the UltraFast Optical Communications and High-performance Integrated Photonics (UFO-CHIP) group. He was previously an EPSRC Doctoral Prize Fellow with the Optoelectronics Research Center at the University of Southampton, U.K and the Australian Government’s Discovery Early Career Research Award (DECRA) fellow with The University of Sydney, Australia. He holds a PhD in Optoelectronics from the University of Southampton, U.K. His research areas of interest are photon–phonon interactions, laser physics, integrated nonlinear optics, optical communications, and microwave photonics. He is a Senior Member of the Optical Society, IEEE, and SPIE and a 2019 OSA Ambassador. He was also the recipient of the OSA’s Ivan P. Kaminow Outstanding Early Career Professional Prize in 2018 and the Institute of Engineers India (IEI)’s Young Engineer Award (YEA) in 2020. Akhlesh Lakhtakia is an Evan Pugh University Professor and The Charles Godfrey Binder (Endowed) Professor in the Department of Engineering Science and Mechanics, at Pennsylvania State University, USA. He received his BTech. (1979) and DSc (2006) degrees from Banaras Hindu University, India, and his MS (1981) and PhD (1983) degrees from the University of Utah, USA. His current research interests include electromagnetic and elastodynamic fields in complex materials and architected materials, including sculptured thin-films and mimumes, thin-film solar cells, biologically inspired design, and forensic science.
