This is a harrowing tale of a day in the life of an inmate in a Soviet gulag of the 40's and 50's. It's grim and moving at the same time. You wonder how and why the prisoners can go on, with little food, maltreatment and temperatues constantly below minus 20. It's treatment of the cruelest kind, and makes the line ‘Man's inhumanity to man’ seem a massive understatement.
