"Sofia, have you ever seen the Ice Cream Parlor so dark and quiet?" We set our suitcases down. Turning toward my sister, I shook my head, "Never; it's always been the center of the town." Reaching down and turning on the Christmas tree lights, Elena whispered, "Especially at Christmas." "Especially when everyone should be here celebrating Christmas Eve." Walking over to Jana's ice cream cone quilt, remembering aloud, "Jana's party for her first year living in Summit was such fun." "Our birthdays are always celebrated here." "And our graduations." "Wedding receptions." "Baby showers." Elena's face glowed in the Christmas lights. "Making Christmas quilts." "Even before our quilting room, Nonna Patti and Mom would slide the long bench tables together so we could work on our Christmas quilt while the Parlor was open."
