Author Biography:

Michael Hanchard is Professor of Political Science at Johns Hopkins University. He is the author of Orpheus and Power: The Movimento Negro of Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo, Brazil, 1945-1988 and Racial Politics in Contemporary Brazil.
