Description

Nick White's use of vintage magazines and found material to create surreal and humorous imagery evokes a nostalgia for the golden years of printed ephemera. Portraits of fictitious characters and graphical records of bizarre conversations fill this full-colour book. On each page White skilfully recounts surreal and playful anecdotes in his unique style of layered painted patterns and carefully selected paper cut-outs. His work, sometimes childlike in its optimism and at other times very sophisticated, is aesthetically engrossing and entertaining in equal measure.

Author Biography

Nick White is an Artist and Illustrator based in London, England. Nick has exhibited work all over the place including London, Liverpool, Amsterdam, Antwerp, Bastia in Corsica and Husavik in Iceland, to name some of those exact places. As an Illustrator Nick has worked for a variety of clients that he will now list some of - The Victoria & Albert Museum, Bloomberg Businessweek, Nobrow, Eye magazine, Timeout, American Airlines, The New York Times and The L.A Times. When not in his studio in North London, Nick can be found at Winchester School of Art where he is a part time Teaching Fellow on the Graphic Arts course. When Nick is not in his studio or at Winchester, Nick can be found playing guitar or Bass and singing as part of the Illustrator super group / band, Owen And The Eyeballs. The band are in the process of releasing their second album, which will come out as soon as they finish the cover artwork. So far the people who have heard it say it is the best thing they have ever heard, or words to that effect. Nick makes work using parts of his body, such as his Brain (ideas), his fingers and thumbs (drawing, cutting, sticking, painting etc) and occasionally his eyes. He likes to write in third person but never second.
