You control a troubled spaceman who has crash-landed on a planet inhabited by strange little creatures called Pikmin. These Pikmin selflessly follow the spaceman's orders, even if it means certain doom. The various types of Pikmin aren't very strong individually, but when they gather in large groups they're able to wreak havoc on dangerous enemies who share their natural habitat.

Controlling these Pikmin, it's up to you to help the spaceman gather his scattered spaceship pieces before his life support system runs out. To do this, you'll need to create a lot of Pikmin by destroying enemies and carrying them back to the Pikmin nests. The gameplay is similar to what you might expect from a real-time strategy game, but Mr. Miyamoto's incredible attention to detail makes the experience stand apart as something completely original. Pikmin's photo-realistic environments were inspired by the gardens in his own backyard, and you might be surprised to feel sad when you watch your Pikmin get gobbled up by a hungry predator.
