Eccentric mother- daughter duo, Lyn and Iona, move to a new town in the hope of finding a better life for themselves. Used to only each other for company, Iona starts to drift away from her mother after befriending a trio of popular girls at school. In turn, Lyn tries to find her own group of friends, but both struggle to find their way through their social awkwardness. With fragile personalities they stumble their way through the harsh reality of bullies and frenemies, only to find themselves retreating more and more into the fantasy world theyve built for themselves.
Critic Reviews:
- "Writer-director Deborah Haywood makes her feature directorial debut with the surreal and whimsical mother-daughter nightmare Pin Cushion, driven by a singular vision and masterful control of a unique tone, which tiptoes the line of beauty and terror. "- Katie Walsh (Los Angeles Times)
- " Haywood digs into her own teenage memories and unearths something eccentric, tragic and utterly unclassifiable. "- Jeannette Catsoulis (New York Times)
- " It's not always an easy watch but it's a sensitive, assured film with characters you'll warm to and root for. "- Anna Smith (Time Out)
