Description

Prague is a city that combines age and beauty. The same can be said of its remarkable system of trams. One of the largest networks in the world, it features classic locally built Tatra T3s in various guises, Soviet-era cars of a general design that were to be found all over the Eastern bloc in the days of the Cold War. These PCC-derived machines have been rebuilt and reengineered for the twenty-first century. They operate alongside the more angular KT8s of the 1980s and up-to-date low-floor air-conditioned vehicles with WiFi. There is also a scheduled service operated by preserved trams. The tramway operator is also responsible for a two-car funicular. All this with the backdrop of the castle high on its promontory, winding cobbled streets, and graceful bridges makes for a treat for the photographer and the transport enthusiast.
