Description

It is of utmost important that controls are instituted to ensure that what was planned really happened. If not, production targets may not be accomplished or met and nobody may know the reason why it is so. The concern of production control is to verify activities in order to ensure that they are carried out of the right time and place and with the right aims in mind. It is concerned with the monitoring of all work in process as well as the final output levels. This is done in order to reduce wastage in materials and in the use of machine and manpower and thus reduce costs and enhance quality. The aim of production control is to maintain the scheduled rate of output. That is, the rate of production must be sufficient to satisfy sales needs and also keep inventory of parts, raw materials and finished goods to a practical minimum. The quantity of finished goods should serve as an adequate buffer or safety stock to take care of the fluctuating demands of sales, while keeping the manufacturing output rate uniform. However, there may be several factors that could bring about deviation from the ideal situation that is from the actual plan
