Description

Redefining Culture: Perspectives Across the Disciplines argues that culture is perhaps the most important thing to know about people if one wants to make predictions about their behavior. The goal of this volume is to present a theoretically exhaustive integration of multidisciplinary approaches to the concept of culture in current academic circles. Originating from a small publication of 200 definitions - developed by Michael Hecht and his graduate students a decade ago - this book expands on the original collection of definitions, providing a rationale, overview, and methods of culture studies in the social sciences and humanities, and examining the themes that emerge from the content analysis of the definitions of culture. This resource has been developed for scholars studying or integrating culture into their work in a variety of disciplines: communication, social psychology, sociology, family studies, education, and anthropology. It also will appeal to advanced undergrad or graduate level courses in intercultural communication, cultural psychology, language and culture, and ethnicity and education.
