Description

Hometown History From the authors of the popular "Images of America: Winnsboro" book, comes a more comprehensive history of the small town of Winnsboro, Texas. Compiled from the many articles Bill Jones has written for local publications, Reflections of Winnsboro tells the story of this area of East Texas from the beginning of civilization to the recent cultural renaissance of the town. It is all written with the same country charm you would experience if you met Bill at the local coffee shop and chatted over a cup of coffee. If you like to stop in small towns and find out what makes them unique, you will enjoy this virtual visit to a town that was visited often by Bonnie & Clyde and was the home of the founders of the Bama Pie Company. The last Confederate soldier was also a visitor to Winnsboro, as were many famous singers, including Elvis Presley. But what makes any town great are the everyday people who have their own stories to tell. Bill has done extensive research and interviews to bring those stories to light. REVIEW OF IMAGES OF AMERICA WINNSBORO "This is a collection of the history of Winnsboro, Texas, a small town in East Texas, in pictures. The pictures are clear and the captions are well done. There is a book planned delving into the people and places in and around Winnsboro througout history by the same authors, and I am planning to buy that one, too." James Moyers

Author Biography:

Throughout his whole life, Bill Jones has always been interested in history. He studied history and government at East Texas Commerce, and eventually taught school in Longview and El Paso. Bill came back to his hometown of Winnsboro in 1981, wanting to get back to his roots, and he formed the Preservation League in 1983. The first historical marker was placed at the intersection of Main and Pine Streets, where the town of Crossroads, later to become Winnsboro, was established. In 1983, Bill was the chairman of the Winnsboro Historical Society, and in 1990 he became President of the Wood County Historical Society, a position he held for ten years. Through all of those associations, Bill gathered stories about the people and places and events that are significant to Winnsboro through interviews with descendants of early settlers, as well as detailed research. He put those stories in columns that he wrote for The Wood County Democrat, The Winnsboro News; The Center Fold, a newspaper for the Winnsboro Senior Citizens' Center; and a newsletter for the Winnsboro Area Chamber of Commerce. He also had a monthly radio show, "Look Back in History," on KWNS 104.7FM, a Winnsboro radio station, and contributed articles to Texas Highways Magazine and Big "D" Magazine. Maryann Miller is an author and editor, with numerous books in print, including the critically-acclaimed Seasons Mystery Series. She enjoys working with other authors to bring their books to print and was honored to work with Bill again on this book.
