"It's probably just me"
3 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

I got this game expecting a lot more and was let down quite a lot. It is a good game but I think I may have just bought it a bit late and so have the likes of KZ3 to compare it too. It is considered an old game now so I shouldn't really complain about graphics also it has been a good 3yrs since I played the first one so forgot the story a little bit but it feels like their is a big chunk missing we go from hale being picked up to just being expected to know what's going on with the whole sentinel thing. Maybe if I play the first one again then do this story I might like it better but if you are only just buying this don't expect a lot remember it is old now.

"A brilliant sequel."
5 stars"

Resistance 2 is one of the best first person shooters on the PS3. You probably need to have played Resistance Fall of Man to really grasp this game, but even so I would highly recommend Resistance 2.

It features a great, mysterious campaign full of twists and an intriguing shock ending. You will fight through a multitude of different settings, ranging from Bryce Canyon, Chicago, and a giant Chimeran ship. Not to mention a plethora of incredible, massive, boss battles.

R2 also features a great standalone co-operative mode, playable both off and online. It features three different classes, Soldier, Spec Ops, Medic, and each offers valuable assistance to the other classes, resulting in the need for true team work. You and your comrades will fight it out over a dozen or so different locations with about a hundred different combinations of objectives.

And on top of that, R2 also features a robust competitive multiplayer also playable both off and online. It features great game modes, great maps, and with so many different weapons, accessories, and skill perks, offers hundreds of different character variations.

All in all expect to play Resistance 2 for easily over 100 hours, and if you're really keen, you can even go after PS3's hardest trophy (10,000 kills in online competitive play). A must have game for proud PS3 owners.

"Good follow up but not a masterpiece"
4 stars"

As a follow up to the original Resistance: Fall of Man, it is overall a good game. If your looking for an epic, then you may be slightly disappointed. Dont get me wrong, visually its amazing. Story line is also good, but for a hardcore gamer, especially if your an FPS expert, you will probably have the game completed within a day or 3.

There is a lot of new Chimera in the game and each graphically done very well.

The strongest feature this game has is the online play. Great choices between co-operative and competitive, and with the ranking and medal rewards, it will have you logging in to play again and again and again.

Description

Resistance 2 transports players across the Atlantic to a besieged 1950s America where it builds on Fall of Man’s legacy. There will be bigger battles, spectacular landscapes and an even more gripping narrative told from Hale’s perspective – alongside an unprecedented online eight-player co-operative mode in which players meet to tackle specially-designed campaigns together.

The Resistance story continues to unfurl with protagonist Sergeant Nathan Hale. Having destroyed the London command centre of the invading alien Chimera, Hale returns to the United States where he becomes part of a special programme known as the Sentinels – a secret weapon against the Chimera assault that the US government knows is imminent. When the Chimera launch a full-scale aerial assault on both coasts, Hale and the Sentinels find themselves in the forefront of the counter-attack.

The game’s multiplayer modes are also set to make a huge impact in the gaming world. Co-operative play, where players team up to tackle a campaign, can often feel constrained in levels designed for single players. Not so with Resistance 2, where squads can undertake a fully independent online campaign built specifically for co-operative play – a feature that demonstrates developer Insomniac Games’ commitment to online gaming. The large scale battles are combined with levels that are designed to be slightly different each time you play. Up to eight players can join forces to face the Chimera together while choosing from three distinct class types. Players can also look forward to vast 60-person online battles in which players join squads with distinct battlefield objectives and fight it out on PLAYSTATION Network, the home of multiplayer online play. The combination of squad objectives and large player-count will give Resistance 2 the perfect blend of epic battlefield chaos and intimate close-quarters combat.

Features:

  • Huge-scale conflict involving gigantic battles against hordes of enemies including new Chimera variants, deadly machines and fearsome boss characters
  • Gripping, atmospheric storyline set in a complex alternate history
  • Squad-based online multiplayer for up to 60 players – with different objectives for each squad on the battlefield
  • New playable characters for co-op mode – wield a chaingun as a Soldier, go Special Ops with a sniper rifle or heal your squad’s injured as a medic
  • Huge online support with full player profile pages and networking through myresistance.net as well as full in-game clan system
  • The third PS3 game from Insomniac Games – developer of hit titles Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction and Resistance: Fall of Man.
