On 1 February 2021, Myanmar experienced the third coup d’état in its modern history. Unprecedented strength was displayed by Myanmar civil society as it embarked on years-long waves of protest to fight back against these new authoritarian drives. Where has this strength come from? This book argues that Myanmar’s force of resistance is deeply rooted in Myanmar university spaces. Students, teachers, professors and activists are leading the protests towards the first Myanmar revolution of ideas, a cultural revolution that is unfolding parallel to a political revolution.
