It urges people living with HIV to become full partners in designing and implementing their own care and for caregivers to accept them in this role.

THE REVEREND CANON TED KARPF is the partnerships officer in the Office of the Director-General's Representative for Partnerships and UN Reform at the World Health Organization headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. J. TODD FERGUSON is Research Associate, Ethics Group, American Medical Association, USA. ROBIN YAEGER SWIFT is Director of the Clergy Health Initiative, Duke University, Durham, North Carolina, USA. JEFFREY V. LAZARUS works at the Communicable Diseases Unit, WHO Regional Office for Europe, and is on the faculty at Copenhagen University, Denmark.
