Betabin, known to friends and family as Beta, is a strong-willed Nigerian girl, the solitary black sheep of the family riding against the tide of polygamous families and degraded women. Her own family is broken and her childhood home unclear, while an overly strict grandmother and uncaring father have made their mark. However, as she comes to terms with a biased existence, a loving mother and spiritual guidance make her future clear to her, despite the resistance of her father. The domineering aspect of her father becomes the symbol to Beta of all she detests in men around her. Maybe one day she will escape the grip of her father's influence, and when that day comes her revenge will be swift.
This book was like a lifted burden from Roli Hope Odeka who could cancel any pains with joy by writing. Writing is purging the body from emotive depression as to live good with oneself and the society. Anyone who has passed through life can easily write a book pointing out the joy and pains that moment of embracing the different characters as it flashes down from the memory. The author/poet and music composer wrote her pain as from her childhood to, the struggles for survival crowning her hope after years. Born in the delta-state of Nigeria, she wrote the difficult upbringing in a polygamy family and trying to claim her rights as a female. She fought through and succeeded. The capacity of writing and composing made her to produce a poetry form of contemporary classical symphonic music with the backup of the Bulgarian symphonic Orchestra in Sofia.
