When I started playing Rise and Fall I was intrigued. Being a big fan of
games based around the ancient Greeks and Romans I was eager to give this game
a go. Not knowing what to expect certainly had its benefits.
This game is a very solid RTS. Containing a Myriad of elements from many
other RTS like it; however, with a few innovations of its own that really make
Rise and fall stand out from the others.
To those more experienced RTS fans, Rise and Fall may not surprise you. What
will surprise you is the ability to control your hero whether it is Achilles,
Alexander the Great, Julius Ceasar or even Cleopatra among other heroes. With a
quick press of a button you take a third-person view of your hero and are able
to control your troops from this vantage, ordering them to charge down your
opponents.
Another great addition is naval warfare. Rise and Fall allows ships to beach.
Once beached men can be heralded onto them and will give you the ability to ram
or board enemy vessles.
Add on top of this the fact that each map has a population limit of
5,000 that means there is plenty of chances for a bit of bloody carnage to
throw in there as well.
Despite Rise and Fall's achievements in terms of gameplay, there are minor
set backs. Being a game made in 2006 the graphics are becoming a
bit dated.
I certainly wouldn't call this a perfect game but if you are looking for a
fun, clever game to test your strategies against then this is the gme
for you.
Overall I'd rate Rise and Fall as a 7/10.
