Description

SandIsle is the first novel in a series set in a small idyllic beach community. The locals gather on the beach for a traditional ritual to pay respect to a beached whale. The swirling mist creates a surreal atmosphere when crazy wild troublemaker, Jacob, plows through the fog. He horrifies the locals with his wild antics and jumps on the whale extracting the mammal's eye. The locals try to intervene to no avail. Jacob's father, Sam, arrives and orders Jacob to drop the fleshy eye and go home. Angry and frustrated, he curses the locals before disappearing into the fog. Normality comes crashing to an end for the locals. Emma returns home and discovers her husband's body. Helen blacks out and falls down the stairs. Annie finds a baby in the dumpster. Elspeth receives a letter from her first love, who she has not set eyes in thirty years, and her beloved dog disappears. John's daughter is hospitalized with acute appendicitis. The final straw is on the eve of a storm when Maggie and Dole's eleven-year-old twin girls vanish along with Jenna's nine-year-old son. The locals form a posse to search for the missing children with the help of a grumpy old timer, Coral Reef. The SandIsle residents are memorable and endearing as they take on this soulful heartbreaking journey that evokes compassion cementing the extraordinary community as the story comes full circle and the curse is lifted.
