There is also discussion of the pharmacological evidence for the various therapeutic activities of Satureja spp., especially on the basis of traditional usage, the treatment of muscle pains, cramps, diarrhea, stomach pain, and blood pressure along with some new areas such as cytoprotection and anti-hyperlipidemia. This book offers a useful guide for researchers in the field of pharmaceutical sciences and natural medicines as well as students and residents in the fields of pharmacognosy and phytochemistry.

Author Biography:

Soodabeh Saeidnia received her Pharm D from Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences and PhD of Pharmacognosy from Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS). She was a Visiting Researcher at Kyoto University, Japan and awarded Kyoto University Foreign Researcher Fellowship to work as a Research Associate at Kyoto University. She was also a Visiting Professor at Saskatchewan University in the College of Pharmacy and Nutrition’s cancer research group. As an Associate Professor of Pharmacognosy in Medicinal Plants Research Center TUMS, she has written 150 papers and books. Her research interests involve natural product chemistry, molecular biology, cancer research, immunopharmacology and traditional medicine. She is a member of the Iranian Society of Pharmacognosy, an editorial board member for a number of international journals, a reviewer of pharmacognosy-related journals. Dr. Saeidnia is highly interested in pharmacologically active natural compounds. In 2014, she was awarded Reviewer of the Year in Daru, J Pharm Sci by Bio Med Central (BMC), Springer.   Azadeh Manayi received her Pharm.D degree from Tehran University of Medical Sciences. After two years as a pharmacist in a hospital center for skin disorders, she took the PhD entrance exam of Pharmacognosy, and subsequently completed the PhD program. Now, she is an assistant professor in Medicinal Plants Research Center, Tehran University of Medical Sciences. She has published several research and review articles in scientific journals, and also contributed to a number of books including the Encyclopedia of Toxicology (Elsevier, USA) and New Approaches to Natural Anticancer Drugs (Springer).   Ahmad Reza Gohari received a Pharm D from Mashhad University of Medical Sciences and a PhD of Pharmacognosy from Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS). He was a visiting researcher and a research associate at Kyoto University, Japan. He has also served as a visiting professor at Saskatchewan University, and is currently an associate professor of Pharmacognosy and Vice Chancellor of Research in Medicinal Plants Research Center at TUMS. He has written 130 papers and books, and his research interest is isolation and structural elucidation of the compoun ds from natural origin. He is a member of Iranian Society of Pharmacognosy.   Mahdieh Kourepaz-Mahmoodabadi received her B.S. degree from Department of Chemistry, Azad University, Mashhad branch. She completed the master program in Analytical Chemistry at Payame-Noor University, Mashhad. Since then, she has worked as a research assistant in Medicinal Plants Research Center, Tehran University of Medical Sciences. She has contributed to several research and review articles in scientific journals and collaborated in two projects related to the anti-withdrawal syndrome activity of the Iranian medicinal plants.
