The ostrich holds a number of records: not only is it the fastest of the flightless birds, but also the largest and heaviest bird on the planet.
Fun Fact:The African ostrich can reach speeds of up to 70 km/h.
Ostriches run up to 70 km/h through the African savannah. An incredible speed when you consider that they are 2.8 metres tall and weigh up to 160 kg. In addition, ostriches lay the largest eggs in the world. They weigh up to 2.5 kg, and their shell is so hard that a grown man can stand on it without it breaking. It is said that the birds stick their heads in the sand when at risk. The truth, however, is that they lie down flat on the bright sandy soil, so only the body is visible, but not the head.

The design of Schleich products is as realistic and naturalistic as possible. This enables children to experience the large variety of nature – from domestic animals on a farm to wild animals in the jungle.
